ACCESSORIES / PRACTICAL GUIDE

Will this receiver work with my laser?

Check the exact model, beam type and pulse mode before treating matching colours as compatibility.

The useful bit

Match the complete model and operating mode; colour and brand alone are insufficient.

Start with the laser type

A line-laser receiver and a rotary-laser receiver detect different types of signal. A compatible line laser may need its pulse or receiver mode enabled. The correct pairing is defined by the exact manufacturer documentation, not just by both instruments producing or detecting green light.

Write down the full laser model and product number, receiver model, relevant mode and manual revision. Similar names can cover different generations or regional variants.

Use official claims precisely

The Bosch Professional UK LR 7 page lists supported line/combi laser models and fine/rough receiver accuracy. Our research read that official page on 21 September 2026. This is a manufacturer compatibility statement; we have not installed or tested the listed pairings.

Check the current exact list before ordering. A page saying that a receiver detects red and green lines is not a blanket claim that it works with every red or green laser. Avoid guessing compatibility from a retailer's bundle photograph.

Three checks, three results

Mechanical attachment asks whether the instrument and bracket connect securely. Electronic detection asks whether the receiver reliably finds the beam in the required mode. Practical usability asks whether the mounted setup can mark the needed reference without blocking access.

Keep those results separate. A clamp that fits a staff may still shift, a detector may have a minimum useful distance, and a line found once may not be repeatable enough for the intended task.

  • Officially listed: backed by the exact current source.
  • Checked on this sample: backed by a dated record.
  • Not detected in these conditions: retain distance and mode.
  • Not tested or unconfirmed: no compatibility conclusion.

Cross-brand observations stay narrow

THISisCarpentry reported that the two receivers used in its specific DeWalt/Stabila comparison were interchangeable for that author. That is an observation about those devices, not proof of universal cross-brand compatibility.

When evaluating a combination, approach the beam from both directions, record sensitivity and check the centre indication repeatedly at the job distance. Follow the manual for limits and operating conditions.
